Pork Pie Appreciation Society

 

Ripponden has been celebrating in style after a hugely successful Pork Pie Festival brought crowds from far and wide to the village this weekend and raised an impressive £1,500 for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

 

The festival proved to be a fantastic day of food, entertainment, creativity and community spirit, with visitors travelling from as far afield as London and Ormskirk to join in the celebrations.

 

Organisers were overwhelmed by the response, with people enjoying a packed programme of activities throughout the day.

One of the highlights was a spectacular performance by the Ryburn Longsword dancers, who put on a smashing show and had crowds completely mesmerised by their traditional dancing.

 

There was plenty for the younger visitors and the grown-ups too thanks to Ali from Paint Me Parties, who was kept busy throughout the day creating colourful masterpieces. Even a hen party stopped by to get involved and have their faces painted!

 

Music was also at the heart of the celebrations, with James Smith entertaining the crowds with his fantastic voice and adding to the lively atmosphere.

 

The festival was made possible with the generous support of Bolster Moor Farm Shop and Timothy Taylor’s, whose sponsorship helped make the event such a success.

 

But the festival wasn't just about having a great day. The event raised £1,500 for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, with fundraising set to continue right through until the end of the year.

 

Organisers are already looking ahead to a busy programme of events, with plenty more opportunities for the community to come together and raise even more money for this fantastic cause.

 

The festival also provided an opportunity to showcase the brilliant businesses and pubs that make Ripponden such a great place to visit, with support and collaboration extending to The Last Post, The Milestone, Ripponden Wine Co, India Brew Co, The Fleece and The Malt House.

 

With visitors travelling from across the country and such a fantastic response from the local community, it seems Ripponden is quickly becoming the village to go out in again.

 

The organisers said: “We were absolutely overwhelmed by the support and the number of people who came along. From the dancers and musicians to the businesses, sponsors, families and visitors, everyone played their part in making it such a smashing day.

 

“Raising £1,500 for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is an amazing start, but this is only the beginning. We’ll be fundraising for them until the end of the year through all our upcoming events, so there is lots more to come.

As if the Pork Pie Festival wasn't enough, Ripponden has another very special celebration just around the corner.

 

The Rushbearing will finish here on Sunday 6th September, and we'll be ready to welcome everyone for another fantastic celebration as the Rushcart arrives outside the pub, crossing the idyllic Packhorse Bridge, for the first time in 50 years.

 

It's a very special occasion as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ripponden's Rushbearing, bringing another wonderful piece of local tradition, community spirit and celebration to the village.
